Chasing a Dream Beyond the Eastern Cape
Rising artist August Muzika is proving that persistence and passion can open doors in South Africa’s competitive music industry. Born Andile Mahlati and originally from Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, the artist says his journey to Johannesburg was fueled by one thing, the dream of building a successful music career.
Speaking to TheJournalistDJ.com, August Muzika reflected on the sacrifices and struggles he faced after relocating to Johannesburg with little industry support and limited resources.
The Harsh Reality of Being an Upcoming Artist
According to the musician, moving from the Eastern Cape to Johannesburg came with major challenges. He explained that arriving in the city without industry connections made it difficult to access studios, record music, and properly market his sound.
August Muzika admitted that many upcoming artists struggle because they are forced to navigate the music industry without mentorship, funding, or professional networks. Despite the hardships, he remained determined to continue pursuing his goals.
A 2021 Interview That Kept Him Motivated
In a heartfelt moment during the interview, August Muzika revealed that a previous interview with TheJournalistDJ.com in 2021 became one of the reasons he kept pushing forward in music. After releasing an EP that year, he said the platform’s support reminded him that people were paying attention to his work and believing in his talent.
The artist described that recognition as motivation to continue creating music, saying it gave him confidence that his journey was moving in the right direction.
Joining Forces With Scorpion Records
August Muzika also opened up about his latest chapter with Scorpion Records. He explained that the opportunity came through fellow creative Mazet SA, who introduced him to the label and encouraged him to visit their studio.
After seeing the professional setup and understanding the label’s vision, he decided to fully invest his energy into the partnership. The artist credited Mazette SA for helping connect him with the team and opening the door to a new phase in his career.
Taking Control Behind the Scenes
Beyond being an artist, August Muzika revealed that he also played a major production role within the label’s latest project. He explained that while other producers had already started building the music, he came in to add his own creative direction by reproducing and refining several elements of the sound.
The musician further shared that he handled parts of the engineering process, showcasing his versatility both behind the scenes and in front of the microphone.
New EP Inspired by His Son
Looking ahead, August Muzika confirmed that fans can expect more solo music from him soon. The artist announced that he is currently preparing a new EP named after his son, Iana.
He also revealed that the project will feature artists including Sugarcane and several other collaborators. Alongside his personal releases, he says he remains committed to helping Scorpion Records grow and establish its presence within the music industry.
