Holistic Healthcare Initiative Reaches Alexandra School
The Black Coffee Foundation has expanded its flagship Gift of Sight by Black Coffee initiative with the introduction of a dedicated dental care programme for learners, reinforcing its commitment to improving children’s health, wellbeing and educational outcomes across South Africa.
The enhanced programme officially launched at Zenzeleni Primary School in Alexandra from 27 to 29 July 2026, where learners are receiving comprehensive oral health assessments alongside eye screenings and vision testing. The integrated healthcare approach aims to identify health concerns that could negatively impact a child’s confidence, academic performance and overall quality of life.
Building on the Success of Gift of Sight
The expansion builds on the continued success of the Gift of Sight by Black Coffee initiative, which has already provided eye examinations to thousands of learners nationwide.
By introducing dental care into the programme, the Foundation is taking a more comprehensive approach to preventative healthcare, ensuring children have access to essential services that support their development both inside and outside the classroom.
The initiative continues to prioritise early intervention, helping identify vision and oral health issues before they become long-term barriers to learning.
Strong Partnerships Drive Greater Impact
The programme is delivered in partnership with Lepas, the official mobility partner of the Black Coffee Foundation, ensuring healthcare teams can reach communities efficiently.
Longstanding partners supporting the initiative include Tania Noach Optometrists, the South African Optometric Association (SAOA), Love Maison33, and JHB VIP, all of whom have played a significant role in expanding access to quality eye care for children.
The Foundation has also welcomed several new partners to strengthen the programme’s impact.
Fourways Dental Studio joins the initiative to provide dental screenings and follow-up care where needed, while Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital will support the ongoing eye-testing component of the project. Diamonds Do Good has also come on board as a new investment partner supporting the Black Coffee Foundation’s mission.

Foundation Focuses on Removing Barriers to Learning
Black Coffee Foundation CEO Lungie Maphumulo said the expansion represents an important milestone in the organisation’s mission to improve children’s lives through accessible healthcare.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and reach their full potential without preventable health challenges standing in their way. The introduction of dental care marks an exciting new chapter for Gift of Sight by Black Coffee. We’ve witnessed the life-changing impact that access to eye care has had on learners, and by expanding the initiative to include oral healthcare, we’re taking an even more holistic approach to supporting children’s wellbeing.”
Maphumulo also thanked the Foundation’s partners, including Lepas and both longstanding and new collaborators, for helping extend the programme’s reach and impact.
Creating Healthier Futures for South Africa’s Children
The Black Coffee Foundation believes that healthy learners are better positioned to thrive academically and personally. By identifying vision and oral health concerns early, the organisation aims to remove preventable obstacles to education while improving long-term health outcomes for children and their communities.
The visit to Zenzeleni Primary School marks another milestone in the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable, community-driven programmes that create lasting, meaningful change for children and families across South Africa.
