by admin

Koketso Reabetswe Mathabathe known to the industry as DJ KMAT was born on March 1st, 1999. KMAT is a musician infamous for her versality, technical skill on the decks and music compilation proficiency.

Apt at maintaining gravitational alignment to “private school” Amapiano, KMAT’s sets invariably depict the style of a seasoned disc jockey, rampantly edging on the parameters of elegant, reserved, mature and luscious soundscapes.

Regarding production however, KMAT reveals musicality which treads on the skirts of something fun, whimsical, young and head bob worthy terrain; both styles perfectly emulating her malleable and dynamic personality.

The Soshanguve bred citizen was brought up in South Africa’s national capital and party central, the city of Tswane. KMAT was raised in a musically enthusiastic household which resulted in the fashioning of a devout music aficionado, influenced by the likes of Michael Jackson and Beyonce.

By age 13, KMAT had become a confirmed and official member of the church to which she would later join the youth group and choir at said church. Unbeknownst to KMAT, her foray in choral music would instigate and became a prominent factor in her assumed role as choir conductor in high school years later.

Amid observing her audiences’ reaction to her music selections, her decision to be a DJ was made almost instantaneously. Journeying a couple of years prior – while out clubbing with friends in Hatfield, Pretoria – KMAT jokingly approaches a club manager to play a set at their establishment.

To her dismay the manager would later call to request her services moreover, inform her that she would be opening for DJ PH – not terrible start for her first gig. Needless to say, her next performances would be more than pivotal to the novice’s career as she secured a gig at the Homecoming Breakfast club event in Pretoria.

Igniting the hearts of the owners and attendees of Homecoming, KMAT was consequently selected as one of the DJs to partake in many of the franchise’s events namely Homecoming Cape Town and Sun City Fontein, to name a few.

Moreover, KMAT obtained a slot to play a set on youth urban radio station, YFM, which assisted in propagating and promoting her skill to audiences who would otherwise had little contact with her.

After numerous solo efforts, which were nothing short of successful as an initiate, KMAT would later get discovered at Zanzou, Pretoria by DJ, producer, and record label owner, Felo Le Tee.

KMAT has since been under the stewardship of her guide and mentor, Felo Le Tee.
