Award-winning producer-DJ and music tastemaker Lerato “Chipkings” Phetla readies his sophomore lead single from his upcoming debut EP since signing with UMG.
Following the release of the EP lead single, “Ucontsi le Nhliziyo Yam,” featuring Kabza de Small, Mashudu and TMan Xpress, the Limpopo Music Awards’ “Best Male ‘22” winner is sharing his new spiritually charged single, “Ndikhokhele” with JNR SA, featuring Mazet.
In interpreting a classic (and previously sampled) hymn like “Ndikhokhele,” Chipkings takes the worship hymn and reimagines the single as a spiritually charged Amapiano hit.
Starting with the signature long-drum, the single starts with the melodic strings to find its sweet spot – coupled with the haunting vocals of Mazet.
Through this reimagination, the single and lyrics become a dedication to the perseverance of going for your dreams despite the odds, challenges, and possibilities of failure. It is a dedication to being steadfast, while maintaining the original messaging of the hymn.
